In preparation for the Centennial celebrations of the church building, a capital campaign was undertaken to, among other things, complete the decoration of the church that was started 100 years ago. In 1952 the ceiling was painted three shades of blue—an appropriate color for a church dedicated to Our Lady. These original colors, chosen during Fr. Rengel’s pastorate and whitewashed in the intervening years, were found in careful research. In 2015-2016, the plain ceilings were given a magnificent artistic transformation by Swiatek Studios of Buffalo, New York to punctuate the reality of the glory of St. Mary of the Angels in Heaven. Similarly, Swiatek Studios restored the neutral walls to the decorative limestone blocks as they appeared after the 1926 renovation.
Symbolism:
Limestone - People (“living stones”)
Mary/Apostles/Angels/Clergy - Intercessors
Gilded Vines - Jesus
Stars/Blue sky - Heaven
Gilded ceiling - God the Father
