When you pray,... go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Mt 6:6
In April 2025, the Diocese of Buffalo announced a settlement in principle with the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors, which represents people victimized by past sexual abuse. To fulfill the $150 million commitment, the Diocese, parishes and Catholic-affiliated entities are being asked to contribute.
This may raise questions, but as a faith community, it is our responsibility to help bring justice and healing. To help soothe the pain, which will never go away, is to provide compensation. By making a meaningful contribution to the settlement, parishes could be protected from current or potential future claims should New York State re-open the statute of limitations in which to bring claims forward.
It is important to understand that the money we are being asked to contribute comes from unrestricted cash and not current offertory and will not affect restricted parish or cemetery assets.
No dollar amount can ever fully compensate victim-survivors for their pain. However, this settlement ensures they receive some compensation for the physical, emotional, and spiritual scars they still endure. The Diocese remains committed to ensure that the sins of the past are not repeated. Learn more by visiting “Protecting God’s Children” on the diocesan website.
We cannot erase the past, but there is a way we can emerge into the light – the light of Christ.
"Think of the benefits to the whole of society, for we cannot stay angry long with a colleague for whom we have prayed. We cannot cheat for long, a boss with whom we have prayed. We cannot provide poor customer service for a person for whom we have prayed." Click on the title for the complete article.
Public prayer, which used to be so much taken for granted, has now become an oddity in our shared life. However, it was not too long ago that everyone’s school day began with prayer. Prayers were offered at the beginning of public meetings, sports events and civic celebrations. Grace was returned at the beginning of banquets and pastors were invited to offer the invocation at public school graduations.
Prayer is a conversation with God. Take some time to evaluate your prayer life. Is it intentional? Is it spontaneous? Is it a conversation of give and take? Is it consistent? Is it something turned to only when there is a crisis? Is there an aspect of listening?
Greetings to all! I would like to express my gratitude to our pastor, Fr. Christopher Emminger, and the entire staff at EMCC for the opportunity to minister as the new Director of Music, especially during this period of transition for the community. I, too, shall begin this season of my life anew, commencing on my exact 40th birthday, and living outside New York City full-time as I yet have never.
I would like to thank the entire EMCC for welcoming me, and I pray that I might fulfill my duties with zeal, temperance and humility.

Director of Music, Organist & Cantor
I have heard at various times in my life references to “CANON LAW!” Hearing the phrasing, “Well, according to Canon Law…” makes me, a faithful Catholic, intuitively know that whatever is going on is not up for negotiation; somewhere there is a definitive stance that the Catholic Church adheres to. So what is Canon Law? Does it have Canon Police to apprehend those who break Canon Law? (no) Does it have Canon Jails and Courts in which to hold and try those apprehended? (no and yes) Are there Canon Lawyers to see these trials through? (YES!)

Over the next few weeks, pray for the Cardinals that have gathered in Rome to choose the next pope - that the Holy Spirit, the moving force within the Conclave and the Church - inspires them to elect a man who is holy and of God’s heart and mind.
