The Community Hero Award was presented by The Cheer Foundation to our parishioner, Chrissy Matz. Mom of Colt Matz, she has formed a support group for other moms enduring their children’s cancer. Chrissy is a warrior in all senses despite whatever she’s been faced with, moments before she’s smiling and is heroicly able to handle everything that comes in front of her without a second thought, with happiness shimmering through her. Chrissy is beyond inspirational for all families, helping guide them through all of their life experiences. While also so selflessly giving whatever she can to bring joy to them or their kiddos. We’re proud of you Chrissy and continue to pray.
SOUTHERN TIER CATHOLIC SCHOOL (STCS) reopened school this week at the former St. John's School. The families enjoyed an Open House picnic to celebrate the grand re-opening and welcomed new Principal, Brittany Nichols, who was the Kindergarten teacher for the past five years. The students have celebrated Mass on September 14th at noon at St. John’s Church with the Most Reverend Michael Fisher, our Bishop. The administrators, teachers, and staff would like to thank the linked parish community members, parishioners and neighborhood for the support as we begin this new chapter. Enrollment is still open! “Pope Francis has spoken extensively about the dignity of work and the importance of protecting the safety and rights of workers. When addressing the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker and World Labor Day, he stated that ‘work is fundamental to the dignity of a person’ and that it ‘anoints us with dignity, fills us with dignity, makes us similar to God, who has worked and still works, who always acts.’ ” (USCCB) Each one of us can contribute to God’s creation within His mission of love and goodness by laboring in prayer, by providing for those most vulnerable and those in need, when performing our daily household tasks, and in doing our work in the community with honesty, integrity and demonstrating our Catholic values with joy. Whatever our age, situations and/or limitations, we still can do something as a labor of love for the Lord.
