The 50th March for Life, the world’s largest annual human rights demonstration, was held on January 20, 2023 in Washington, DC. Fr. John participated in this first post-Roe March together with Fr. Peter Santandreu, a priest of our DOB studying Canon Law at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Many others from the Diocese of Buffalo participated in this historic event. Some of the key speakers that attended the MFL Rally included: Dr. Gianna Emanuela Molla, daughter of St. Gianna Beretta Molla for whom St. Gianna gave her own life for the sake of her daughter. Jonathan Roumie, best known for his award-winning role as ‘Jesus’ in the groundbreaking series, THE CHOSEN, a drama about the life of Jesus Christ. Coach Tony Dungy, New York Times bestselling author and Pro-Football Hall of Famer. He commented on the faith of the Buffalo Bills team and the faith of the people of our area felt around the world. Sister Mary Casey O'Connor, a Sister of Life, and her twin sister who is developmentally disabled, Casey Gunning, a teacher’s assistant and a lifelong athlete in the Special Olympics. Many people of all walks of life, especially the youth among Catholics, protestant denominations and non-believers, are speaking out about the need to support LIFE. The Basilica, St. John’s and the DOB continue to support women and families with unexpected pregnancies. Our own St. Gianna Pregnancy Center as well as Project Rachel and Mother Teresa Home in Buffalo are critical support programs for mothers and families in need.
