“Pope Francis has spoken extensively about the dignity of work and the importance of protecting the safety and rights of workers. When addressing the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker and World Labor Day, he stated that ‘work is fundamental to the dignity of a person’ and that it ‘anoints us with dignity, fills us with dignity, makes us similar to God, who has worked and still works, who always acts.’ ” (USCCB) Each one of us can contribute to God’s creation within His mission of love and goodness by laboring in prayer, by providing for those most vulnerable and those in need, when performing our daily household tasks, and in doing our work in the community with honesty, integrity and demonstrating our Catholic values with joy. Whatever our age, situations and/or limitations, we still can do something as a labor of love for the Lord.
