Five First Saturdays Devotion
On the first Saturday of every month our basilica offers First Saturday Devotions at 7:30 a.m. with Mass and rosary.
Why is this important? The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared six times to the young shepherd children Francisco, Jacinta, and Lucia between May 13, 1917, to October 13, 1917, in the small village of Fatima, Portugal. Years later, on December 10, 1925, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Sister Lucia (who was by then a Dorothean nun) and repeated one of the messages given in Fatima telling her --
“I promise to assist at the hour of death with graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturdays of five consecutive months, shall confess (their sins), receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the rosary, and keeping me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the rosary, with the intentions of making reparation to me.”
